CORN MAZE CELEBRATES 12 YEARS OF GETTING UTAHNS LOST

Utah’s Favorite Fall Tradition Returns with 20+ Added Attractions and a New Pirates of the CORNibbean Maze Design

LEHI, Utah — September 2007 — You can grow it, shuck it, pop it, cook it and for the last 12 years…even play in it. With more than 3,500 reported uses, corn may just be the world’s most widely-used crop. Its current popularity, however, seems to be less about eating it and more about getting lost in it.

Just one year after portions of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End were shot at the Bonneville Salt Flats, a tribute to the movie is popping up in a Lehi cornfield. BYU grad Brett Herbst, creator of Utah’s first maze in 1996 and more than 1,200 around the world since, is preparing to open his 12th-annual maze at the Cornbelly’s Corn Maze & Pumpkin Fest at Thanksgiving Point. Honoring one of the most anticipated films ever shot in Utah, this year’s maze design features a Pirates of the CORNibbean theme.

“We chose this maze design because there is a connection to Utah and because pirates have a great tie to the Halloween season,” Herbst says. “Our ultimate goal is to provide Utahn’s with an enjoyable, family-friendly fall adventure and we believe this year’s theme will be one of the most fun we’ve had.”

Challenging the wits of old and young alike, curious maze-goers will spend an average of one hour encountering pirate ships and hidden treasures while trying to find the 12-acre labyrinth’s exit. Along with the corn maze, visitors can also enjoy more than 20 other attractions, including: the haunted Creature, Cornophobia haunted maze trail, Spooktacular Jack-o-Lantern hayride, jumping pillow, trick-or-treating trail, pick-your-own pumpkin patch, pig races, cow train rides, and much more. New this year are cow tippin’ pumpkin blasters, a gemstone mining operation, a huge spider web climbing tower, a smaller jumping pillow for toddlers and an interactive Disney-style maze show.

Special discounts and operating times are available for school field trips, scouts, corporate teambuilding and group outings. For the general public, Cornbelly’s will be open September 21-November 3 from 4-10 pm Monday-Thursday and 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. It is closed Sundays.
