STATE’S ORIGINAL CORN MAZE HONORS LARRY H. MILLER IN 14TH SEASON

LEHI, Utah — September 2009 — Having become one of the state’s favorite fall entertainment attractions, Utah’s original corn maze is paying tribute to the man who has arguably made the greatest impact on Utah’s entertainment industry. BYU grad Brett Herbst, creator of Utah’s first maze in 1996 and more than 1,500 around the world since, will open his 14 th-annual maze at Cornbelly’s Corn Maze & Pumpkin Fest at Thanksgiving Point on September 25. Honoring a Utah legend, the design features Larry H. Miller and the words “A Man Who Loved Utah.”

“Each year we choose a design for our maze that represents something significant or loved here in the state of Utah,” Herbst says. “Though the choice is often difficult, this time it was easy. With the passing of Larry in February, this year provides us the special privilege of honoring a man who loved Utah and made an incredible impact on our state. He is loved and respected by thousands of Utahns and we couldn’t think of a better way to honor his memory.”

Following the grand opening on September 25, a Larry H. Miller Appreciation Day will help kick off the season on Monday, Sept. 28. Along with prizes and appearances by the Jazz Dancers and Bumble the Bees mascot, guests can navigate a quicker exit from the maze by answering Larry H. Miller trivia along the way. A special tribute video will be played onsite and a portion of the night’s proceeds will be donated to the Larry H. Miller Charities. To receive a 2-for-1 voucher for the night’s festivities that will ensure their proceeds go to charity, guests can print a coupon at www.lhm.com

“This is truly a unique tribute to a man who loved to bring good things to Utah,” said Gail Miller, Larry’s wife. “He would have been very pleased with the idea of good, wholesome fun for great numbers of people and then for the proceeds to reach out and make even more lives a little better. We sincerely appreciate Thanksgiving Point and Cornbelly’s for this recognition of a man who loved Utah.”

Curious maze-goers will spend an average of one hour trying to find the 12-acre labyrinth’s exit. Along with the corn maze, visitors can enjoy a pumpkin patch and more than 25 other fall attractions, including: the Cornophobia haunted maze trail, spooktacular jack-o-lantern tree, pig races, cow train, super-sized pumpkin blasters, a Pumpkin Princess Playland and much more.

Special discounts and operating times are available for school field trips, scouts, corporate teambuilding and group outings. For the general public, Cornbelly’s will operate September 25-October 31 from 4-10 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and UEA days. It is closed Sundays.
